The Thailand Privilege Card — known until 2023 as the Thailand Elite Visa — is the Thai government’s premium long-term residency programme for foreigners who want stable, long-term access to Thailand without the recurring paperwork of annual visa renewals. For a single upfront membership fee, the card delivers multiple-entry access to Thailand for five to twenty years, with each visit extendable to one year at any immigration office. What the Thailand Privilege Card is

Each year, you report to an immigration office within your current permission-to-stay window and request a further twelve-month extension. The programme was rebranded from the Thailand Elite Visa in late 2023. The underlying immigration mechanics remain the same; the principal changes since then have been to the tier structure, the pricing, and the introduction of a Privilege Points system that allows members to redeem points for airport services, lounge access, transfers, and lifestyle perks throughout their membership period.

The five membership tiers

As of mid-2026, the programme offers five tiers:

• Bronze — 650,000 THB, valid for 5 years. Individual applicants only. Scheduled to close on 30 September 2026.
• Gold — 900,000 THB, valid for 5 years. Individual applicants only. Will become the entry-level tier once Bronze closes.
• Platinum — 1,500,000 THB, valid for 10 years. Family members can be added for an additional 1,000,000 THB per person.
• Diamond — 2,500,000 THB, valid for 15 years. Family members can be added for an additional 1,500,000 THB per person.
• Reserve — 5,000,000 THB, valid for 20 years. Invitation-only.

These are one-time government membership fees, not annual charges. The membership covers your entire visa duration with no further payments required for the core immigration benefit. A non-refundable application processing fee has applied in the past; applicants should confirm the current status of that fee at the time of applying, as it has been temporarily suspended in 2026. What membership actually gives you

Beyond the core benefit of stable, long-term legal residence, Privilege Card members receive:

• Airport fast-track and meet-and-greet at major Thai airports, reducing arrival and departure queue times considerably
• Airport limousine transfers (the number per year depends on tier)
• Privilege Points redeemable for airport lounge access, movie tickets, hotel upgrades, and other lifestyle services — points accumulate annually and are allocated per tier
• Annual immigration extension assistance — the card company guides you through each yearly extension
• Access to a dedicated cardholder helpline

The card does not grant a work permit. Holding a Privilege Card does not allow you to work for a Thai employer or operate a business in Thailand — those activities require a separate Non-B visa and work permit through the standard immigration route. The card is appropriate for retirees, people living on foreign income, property owners who spend part of the year in Thailand, and longer-term visitors.

Remote workers should note a distinction: if you work remotely for a foreign employer without performing any work-related activity within Thailand, the Privilege Card provides a workable basis for your stay. If you are actively earning from Thai sources or want an explicit legal framework for remote work, the Destination Thailand Visa (DTV) is specifically designed for that purpose and may be a cleaner fit.

Who the Privilege Card is designed for

The programme works best for people who:

• Plan to spend a significant portion of each year in Thailand over a long time horizon — five, ten, fifteen, or twenty years
• Want to avoid the annual cycle of financial proofs, medical certificates, and immigration office visits that a Non-O Retirement or Non-O Marriage visa requires
• Value the airport fast-track service as a regular convenience
• Are looking for a no-income, no-age-requirement path to legal long-term residence — the Privilege Card has no minimum income, no minimum age, and no employment or marital status requirement; you qualify by paying the membership fee and passing a background check

It is not a path to permanent residency or Thai citizenship. Time spent in Thailand on a Privilege Card does not count toward the years of continuous residence required for those processes. If eventual PR or citizenship is a priority, a qualifying Non-Immigrant visa route remains the appropriate foundation.

The application process

The typical timeline from submission to approval is 30 to 45 days. The steps are:

1. Submit an online application with passport details and personal information
2. Receive a conditional approval and pay the membership fee
3. Undergo a background check across four Thai government agencies
4. Receive your membership package and card once cleared

All nationalities are currently eligible, with the exception of North Korea. There is no minimum age, income level, or health requirement. The background check is the only meaningful gate — applicants with serious criminal records or prior significant Thai immigration violations may be declined.

Bronze tier closes 30 September 2026
